Science communication is important in today's technologically advanced society. A good part of the adult community is not science savvy and lacks the background to make sense of rapidly changing technology. My blog attempts to help by publishing articles of general interest in an easy to read and understand format without using mathematics. You can contact me at ektalks@yahoo.co.uk

Climate Change - Earth's Energy Balance, Ice Ages, Natural Climate Chnages

Index of Blogs and Courses

In this talk, I shall discuss the Earth's energy balance.  Earth receives most of its energy from the Sun.  Some relatively minute amount of energy reaches the Earth's surface from the hot interior.  The Earth also radiates energy into space.  At equilibrium, energy received is equal to energy lost. If there is imbalance then the temperature of the Earth will change accordingly.
Due to the changes in its orbital motion around the Sun, the amount of energy received by the earth varies over periods of several thousand years or longer.  These changes kick off what we call Natural Climate Changes - ice ages are periodic and are due to such changes.
