Science communication is important in today's technologically advanced society. A good part of the adult community is not science savvy and lacks the background to make sense of rapidly changing technology. My blog attempts to help by publishing articles of general interest in an easy to read and understand format without using mathematics. You can contact me at ektalks@yahoo.co.uk

Medical Imaging - Computer Tomography (CT) Effect of Ionising Radiation

X-Ray imaging provides a means of looking inside the body but is only able to provide data on total radiation absorbed by the tissue that lies in the path of the X-ray beam.
CT is a much more versatile technique that provides a three dimensional view of the inside of the body and from the data it is possible to view sections of the body from different angles.  However, this is achieved at the cost of much higher radiation dose to the patient.

Philips and Toshiba make some state of art CT scanners and I have demonstrated the strength of CT by showing some examples obtained from these devices.
